I haven’t been consistent posting here on my site these past few months. So why do I have the crazy idea of writing each day this Christmas week?
I could try to sound generous and say this is my gift to my readers. But you are having a busy week and might not consider these emails cluttering your in-box as much of a gift!
Truth is, I simply want to share this Christmas week with you.
So to all of you, (or to both of you 🙂 ), who are making time to read, thank you for spending part of your Christmas here, with me!
A Christmas smile (and reminder) …
Last night, I attended a cantata. Two of my students were members of the choir and had invited me. During one of the songs, the choir sang the words “Our God is with us”, as the screen displayed an image representing Jesus asleep in the manger. The music grew quiet and worshipful as we gazed at that sweet picture.
At that moment, his timing impeccable, a toddler cried out joyfully, “baby!!!”
Yes, of course we laughed! And don’t you think that God Himself smiled as that child recognized in the picture of “baby Jesus” someone like himself?
Can any of us find a purer celebration of Christmas than recognizing that Jesus became like us as he came to be with us?
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1: 21-23)
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2: 8-11)
(Tomorrow I’ve got a Christmas Party story. The gift is a joke is on me!)
