(This week I’m Celebrating My 100th Post.
What is the power of our stories?
This question is helping me as I evaluate my purposes for writing. I had one of those “aha” moments as I listened to a woman’s testimony. A conglomeration of childhood abuse, escape into addiction, rejection and more; her story reached its lowest point with her landing in prison following a tragic accident.
There, she read Life’s Healing Choices, by John Baker.
As I read the testimonies, I was surprised to find one story similar to mine. Through that, God spoke to me that I was not alone. (paraphrased)
“Not Alone.”
Isn’t that the power of our stories? When we relate our honest experiences with struggles, defeats and victories, we are speaking hope to those with similar challenges and battles.
Is this why we battle with fear, shame, or guilt when we consider talking about our journey? Or writing our stories? Our enemy knows and fears the glory of our narratives. If he can keep us silent, our message of hope will remain bottled up in the small container of our minds, rather than being shared through the largeness of our hearts.
So when we ask ourselves “What will they think if I tell them ______________”, let’s remember that some will think “I’m not alone.”
They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Revelation 12:11)
