Book Review; Wise Guys by Kent Evans.
Do you know a man who could use some encouragement? Or a guy who might benefit from receiving a little direction?
I willingly admit that many of us guys feel that we are alone to figure out life. As a result, we may overlook God’s gift of …
Wise Guys (???)
Wise guys are the men who speak encouragement, who challenge us to learn a skill, who give us a kick in the behind when needed. They are the guys, the men, who have traveled a little further, and are willing to use their journey to encourage us to continue ours.
Kent Evans, board chairman and co-founder of Manhood Journey, a ministry that helps fathers and mentors build the next generation of godly men, uses humor as he shares stories and lessons learned from his encounters with the wise guys in his life.
His examples of wise-guy encounters challenges us men to think about the wise guys we have been blessed with in our lives. Some are men who have walked with us for miles. Others are those who have simply uttered a few well-spoken words that brought life to our hearts when we needed it most.
The chapters of this book are short, and are easy reading. Each concludes with a few questions. So this book could be used to start conversations in a small men’s group, between accountability partners, or even between fathers and sons.
“I’ve always defined true ministry as the process of walking through something with God and then being vulnerable enough to turn around and walk someone else through, too. Kent’s infectious passion to develop Christ-like men is evident in his writing and you will be both challenged and inspired by this collection of characteristic profiles of men who have gone before to show the way. Bravo, Kent. You are walking us through.” Mark Hancock, award-winning writer and Chief Executive Officer of Trail Life USA

Bonnie says
Wisest guy- My Uncle David. David came to the Lord several years before I did. After coming to the Lord (we are only 4 years apart so more like brother and sister) he was so excited and wanted me to “share” in all of it. I didn’t “get it” at that time and kind of begin to try to distance myself from him and all this “kookiness”. He never allowed that to happen and being the “wise guy” that he is stopped pestering me. Through all the years he only showed me love, never, EVER judged me, never gave advice UNLESS I asked, just loved me through all my “worldly mess”. He was SO HAPPY when I finally got just a little teeny sliver of wisdom myself and asked Jesus into my life. We are now closer than ever because more than uncle and niece we truly ARE brother and sister now through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

That’s a neat testimony Bonnie. And I agree, your Uncle David IS a wise guy!

I think my husband is a pretty wise guy. 🙂 He’s good at sharing wisdom from a different perspective, usually one that I haven’t even considered.
Mark says
I agree. He would be one my list of “wise guys.”
Amy says
The wisest guy I know is my friend Micah! He’s always got an answer from the Word, which has proven invaluable.
Thanks for the chance to win!
Mark says
those who answer from the Word are wise indeed!

I know a few “wise guys.” Our former pastor and our neighbor have both mentored my husband the last several years. I’m grateful to both of them!
Mark says
Those kind of “wise guys” are a blessing to have in our lives.
David Mike says
The wisest men I have encountered are my father and my father-in-law. For they have shaped me.
Mark says
You are blessed to have them!
