For 11 1/2 months of the year my friendships seem good and relatively normal. I mean, we drink coffee and talk together. We make time for each other in our busy schedules. We share meals, laughter, tears, hugs, and handshakes. Oh, but my eyes are being opened to something I’d rather ignore…
December unmasks the harsh reality that my friends are the kind of people who (I can hardly bring myself to say this), the kind of people who take care of themselves. There, I’ve admitted it, I am friends with health-conscious people. Yes, with those kind of people. (You know, it does feel better getting this out into the open!)
Some watch how much sugar they eat. Others avoid dairy products or food dyes. Some count carbs. There are those who rant about working out and lifting weights. These are messed up people. How can I enjoy those who don’t indulge in homemade candy and freshly baked cookies? How have I been so blindsided that I am only beginning to accept that they want to avoid sugary treats? Milk and butter-laden offerings? Carb-infused foods?
This is a serious dilemma that I must choose to face or continue to live in denial over.
What’s that you say, you’re offering me a white-maple-bust, double-shot espresso? Oh sorry I’d better not, I’m cutting back on caffeine.

I don’t know what gooey goodness you have cooking there, but some of your low-sugar, dairy-free, food dye-avoiding friends would probably be totally willing to taste test that!!!! Just sayin’.

Probably so. Amazing to think friends would be willing to make that kind of sacrifice for me. Of course, I guess I would also do the same and join them in partaking of a caffeine-filled espresso!

YOU? Cutting back on caffeine????? I know! It is because you overdid the pumpkin spice coffee this year, right? LOL! Merry Christmas Mark and enjoying your posts this week!
Mark says
Well I do need to make myself very clear, I’m cutting back, NOT eliminating, caffeine!!! 😉

I may have had a mild panic attack when I read that caffeine part. Good thing we didn’t buy you coffee for Christmas this year!! 😉
