Wow, we’ve reached December 26th! You know what that means? Only 365 shopping days till Christmas. (Leap year – we get that extra day -whew!)
Before I go any further, I need to share this picture of me getting into my ride last week….
Those of you who see me around are saying “Wait a minute. He doesn’t own a 2014 Buick LaCrosse!”
I didn’t say this was my car. I said this was my ride. For one day.
that annoying Gift of Interruption!
I had planned to go out of town that day to visit a relative as well as finish my Christmas shopping. But those plans got interrupted by my ten year old Checy’s demand to have $600.00 worth of unexpected repairs.
The shop provided me with the loaner car pictured above. (Thank you Kevin and Whitesides of Cambridge!) I drove “my” Buick to Ladders, my favorite coffee bar. Time to figure out what to do with the time that was now on my hands. (First of course, I drank some really great coffee!)
Since I had my laptop with me, I decided to write. By the time I got the phone call (six hours later) that my car was repaired, I had written the drafts which became my posts this week. The interruption to my day had provided the time to write what I’ve shared this week.
And by writing, (and reviewing and editing) I’ve been given several gifts.
- I’ve been reminded to enjoy laughing at myself.
- I’ve been encouraged to not cling to my need for a “perfect” environment.
- I’ve been challenged to use times of loneliness to remember that God longs for me.
- I’ve been assured that I have a Good Father.
I’d say those gifts were well worth the interruption and even the expense of my car repairs! (Plus, I got to drive around town in a pretty sweet ride that day!) Hopefully, something you’ve read here this week has given you some encouragement, brought a smile to your face, or prompted some thinking.
Thank you for interrupting your time to read these posts. Thank you for sharing your Christmas week with me.
