I’m writing this on the weekend, while house sitting for friends. (My main responsibility is to make sure their dogs get bathroom breaks!) It’s nice having a couple days and nights away from home.
This is a good opportunity to organize emails, get my laptop and printer talking to each other (old printer, new computer… jealousy issues I think), do some reading and writing, and practice music for an upcoming worship event.
I’m feeling a bit spoiled. When I went into “my” room, I found it stocked with bottled water, snacks, an essential oil diffuser and a sample-sized tube of toothpaste. (Hey guys, the toothpaste wasn’t touched… not because I didn’t brush my teeth, but because I remembered to pack my own Crest! Just thought you might wonder about that….)
Mid-way through the forenoon this morning, I’d finished the bacon that was intended for a lunch-time sandwich, and had enjoyed another home-baked muffin with my second (or maybe third) cup of coffee. Now, late afternoon, the casserole left for my dinner is heating in the oven. The dogs periodically make sure I’m still near by, before returning to their favorite snoozing spots.
And wow, I just spied two young fawns grazing in the grass outside. Yep, house-sitting is a rough job, but I think I’m up to the task!
I tend to analyze things pretty deeply (I hear that sarcastic “really” from at least one of you!). Part of me wants to draw some deep life lessons and applications from this whole “house-sitting” experience.
But instead, I think I’ll step outside of my box of complexity and keep things simple…
This morning, when I opened my laptop to start working, I found that my friends had tucked this (soon to be framed) card between the screen and the keyboard.
I’ll admit that this dude got a little choked up; Philippians 1:6 has had a huge impact in my life. (Maybe I’ll write more about that, eventually.)
This card has sat by my computer today, reminding me that while I am going about my day’s business, God is going about His, furthering His good work. Makes me wonder, how is God using my house-sitting to carry out His plans?
Truth is, I don’t know the answer to that question. In fact, there are a lot of times that I don’t know how God is weaving the pieces and events and circumstances of my life together, for His purposes. And that’s OK.
This I do know: God has started a good work in my life, through my relationship with Jesus Christ, and He is going to continue that work. My responsibility is to say “yes” to the relationship that He invites me to have with Him, today.
Even while I let the dogs out!
“…whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10: 31b (NIV)

While I’m sure I don’t know what you mean by deeply analyzing things *ahem*, I’m glad that you were able to enjoy some rest, coffee, encouragement, and even a little local wildlife. 🙂
Thank you for the reminder that while we go about our business, God is indeed working His plan. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the day-to-day that I don’t remember that. I’m thankful that He’s carrying on that good work that He started.

Glad the reminder was encouraging. And yes, be assured that He is carrying on the good work, the good plans, that He has for your life.
