My friends in Florida are bracing for a possible hit from Hurricane Matthew. We need to pray for all those being impacted by this storm.
When I lived in Florida, my dog and I sat out a hurricane with a friend in her home. We enjoyed a fun evening – until we lost electricity. Wind howled and rain came down in sheets. We could hear trees cracking and branches crashing to the ground. Then the wind settled. The rain stopped. The clouds parted. The night was suddenly peaceful. We stepped outside and saw a clear and star-filled sky. We were viewing what was above the storm, bigger than the storm.
We were in the eye of the storm.
The wind and rain returned as the storm continued its movement through the area.
We get hit by many storms. Illness, layoffs, broken relationships, financial set-backs…. I’ll stop before the list gets too long and depressing! Those times make us think of Jesus quieting the storm on the sea. He is our peace in the storm. Our eye of the storm.
God’s being our eye of the storm certainly doesn’t mean that we avoid storms! It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t prepare for storms we see approaching. And we may have to clean up after the storm passes. But it does mean that our focus can be on what, or rather Who, is above and bigger than our storm.
How do we find that place of peace in our storms? Doesn’t it require our faith? Our choice to remember that God has promised to provide and comfort, to protect and deliver, to never leave us? Yes, our storm may rage around us and impact us. But the list of God’s promises is long. When we remember who He is, and that He is above and bigger than our storm, we find peace.

Thanks for that! He is in charge no matter what! ’04 was a dress rehearsal for what we are in for tonight…. Cat 4. Charley was a Cat 1.

Yes Bonnie, I’ve been thinking that “that” was nothing like “this”. Am praying and will continue to pray, for all of you.
