Over the next few weeks I’m looking forward to weaving some gift-giving ideas in with my regular posts. (Don’t be surprised if you find something to put on your own wish list!)
Reading Christian singer / songwriter Matthew West’s book Forgiveness, Overcoming the Impossible encouraged me on my forgiveness journey this year. Since everyone benefits from giving and receiving forgiveness, I think this book makes a great gift for Christmas or any other time.
Writing in an engaging and personable tone, West delves into the topics of forgiving others, asking for forgiveness, forgiving ourselves, and receiving God’s gift of forgiveness. Real-life stories are woven with practical counsel on the vital importance and benefits of forgiveness.
West shares Jordan’s story. Jordan was a young drug addict who now lives as a forgiven man and identifies himself as “a child of the one true King”. West used this story as the inspiration for his song, “Hello, My Name Is”
Renee’s account of forgiving the man who killed one of her daughters is a powerful example of a mother finding the grace to forgive the unforgivable. West wrote his song “Forgiveness” after hearing Renee’s story.
From the back cover:
These powerful stories are of people who faced some of life’s hardest moments – betrayal, abandonment, divorce, addiction, even death – and yet they chose to do the impossible: they allowed God to work through them and offer forgiveness.
With each chapter a complete writing of its own, this would be a great book to read through with a spouse, with teens, or with friends. Some life-changing discussions could arise from sharing these pages!
Forgiveness, Overcoming the Impossible, is available as a Hardcover book or in Kindle. Consider giving the gift of Forgiveness this Christmas!
