These thoughts on fatherhood come from my men’s Sunday School class,
Fathers, create an environment of fun in your homes. This creates an environment for difficult conversations and discipline. Fun builds your children’s trust.
This has me thinking. If dads are to reflect the heavenly Father’s character, and if dads should enjoy fun with their kids, then does God desire that we have fun with him?
If we have fun with Father God, are we more likely to trust him in the times that are not fun? Are we more likely to respond positively to his discipline?
And what does having fun with God look like?
Honestly, thinking of having fun with God feels a bit “un-Christian.” Isn’t he all stern and somber and serious? And yet, since God created us with the capacity to enjoy, to laugh, to smile, to joke, then why would he limit himself to always being stern and somber and serious in his relationship with us?
How many of us need help with our “fun” ability? Do we dare ask God to help us to have fun with him? I know I don’t want to miss enjoying the fun side of my Father.
How do you have fun with God? I’d love to hear about it.

I think God has to be smiling when He allows fun things to happen to us and around us. His fun might be shared as we giggle at baby ducks splashing in a pond as they play. It might even be shared in a goofy, eye-rolling knock knock joke from a friend. Maybe we just have to be willing to admit that the things that make us smile are fun gifts from Him. 🙂

I think your last sentence nails it. If we remember that all good things are from Him, then we will realize that the fun moments are His gifts to us.

Having fun with God to me anyway is anytime I am outside enjoying His great creation. One example that comes to mind…. I always feel closest to God when I am by the ocean. Back a few years ago when I had two good shoulders I used to love to go boogey boarding at the beach. It was like I was boogey boarding with Him because of the closeness I always felt to Him at the beach. The same is true when I am in the Rockies hiking when I get to go to Colorado. Something about being out in nature, His creation and YES to me THAT is fun! 🙂

Oh YES the beach is a great place to enjoy God, even without boogie boarding! 🙂
