In the opening pages of Wherever the River Runs, Kelly Minter invites us to accompany her on an intriguing adventure with unexpected results, as she writes
“Only God could fully appreciate the fact that He was planning to whisk me from Abbey Road in northwest London to a rickety boat smack in the middle of the Brazilian rain forest.”
With a conversational writing style, Kelly shares how God interrupted her pursuit of the life she imagined, taking her on a journey down the Amazon River where she encounters piranhas, caimans, machete-wielding mothers, heroic jungle pastors, and faith-filled children; and receives a renewed perspective on issues such as pride, true servant- hood, grief, and the value of prayer.
(I particularly love the story of the 65 year old grandma, and her group of friends, who spent 42 hours over the course of just one week praying for a teen-aged witch doctor. The story of that “prayer campaign” challenged me to begin a personal “prayer campaign” of my own.)
And, that’s what makes Wherever the River Runs a valuable and worthwhile read: through honestly relating the transformation of her faith, Kelly draws us into evaluating our own faith and hope.

This looks like an encouraging read. I have friends who’ve done missions work in the Amazon, so I’d love to get a peek into life there.

Sounds like a great read . Sometimes I ned to step back and reeva luate my faith and my hope especially during times of trouble it seems like I question where God is leading me.

Re-evaluating our faith and hope is a challenge, a worthwhile challenge, especially during times that, well, CHALLENGE us!

Andrea, it truly is an amazing story. If you didn’t already, made sure you watch the short video click she did about her work on the Amazon.

Spending lots and LOTS of time snuggling and nursing a newborn these days. Could use a good book to pass the time. 🙂

As someone who has been to the Amazon rain forest twice for short-term mission trips, incredible memories flooded my heart when I watched the video! I spent time on such a missionary boat on the Xingu River- sleeping in a hammock/rede and visiting remote village church plants. Truly God is at work in Brazil!
I can’t wait to read this book! However, if my name happens to be drawn, please send the book to another- so they can experience the Amazon through the words of this author!
